The #11 Indiana Hoosiers took Iowa’s best shot and prevailed 20-15 in Big Ten play. Indiana moves to 5-0 and 2-0 in the Big Ten. Iowa falls to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten.
How it happened
Indiana capitalized on an Iowa interception on their first possession of the game, scoring two plays later on a 14-yard pass from Fernando Mendoza to Omar Cooper Jr. The two teams would trade punts before Iowa connected on a field goal for a 7-3 Hoosier lead after the first quarter.
In the second, after an Iowa punt and Indiana turning the ball over on downs, Iowa scored a touchdown to give them a 10-7 lead. Indiana would tie the game with 19 seconds left in the half.
Both teams had the ball twice in the third quarter, which resulted in punts. In the fourth, Indiana once again turned the ball over on downs, which led to an Iowa field goal for a 13-10 Hawkeye lead. Indiana would tie it again on another field goal. The two teams both turned the ball over with interceptions, and Iowa missed a field goal.
Indiana would score on a 20-yard touchdown throw from Mendoza to Elijah Sarratt for a 20-13 lead. After Iowa turned it over on downs, they got a safety.
Team leaders
Passing: Fernando Mendoza, 13/23 for 233 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
Rushing: Roman Hemby, 15 carries for 86 yards.
Receiving: Elijah Sarratt, six catches for 132 yards and a touchdown.
