Atlanta, GA- The Atlanta Falcons host the Washington Redskins in their third Preseason NFL game, on Thursday evening at 7:30 pm eastern standard time. The Falcons will be coming off their 11th straight preseason loss to the Jets last Thursday. The Falcons 11 game losing streak dates back to 2016. Atlanta also lost to the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins this pre-season.
The Falcons are the only NFL team that is 0-3 this preseason, however, they have proven that a winless preseason does not define the outcome of their regular season. Despite their 0-4 preseason record in 2017 they ended with a 10-6 regular-season record and went on to fall to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
The Redskins are currently 0-2 this preseason and come into this game off of a loss last week to the Cincinnati Bengals. The also the Cleveland Browns in their first preseason game this season. Washington finished 1-3 in the preseason last year.
Washington Head Coach Jay Gruden has not made a final decision on his starting quarterback and is in no rush to name one. Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins are currently battling for the starting quarterback role. Colt McCoy is not expected to be ready for the season opener, as he is still recovering from his season ending injury in 2018. Haskins led the team in passing yards in both of their preseason losses. Haskins shown his ability to pass and move in the pocket under pressure. Running back Adrian Peterson ran for 26 yards on his first carry this preseason, having a limited role so far.
Both Keenum and Haskins will see minutes in the match up Thursday against the Falcons. Atlanta starters may see limited play this game as they have solidified their roster.
Atlanta has played without Julio Jones this preseason as he is still waiting on his new contract, and states that he will not play during the preseason. Devonta Freeman made an appearance last week against the Jets with one run for a two-yard game. Mohammed Sanu did not have a catch in last weeks game and Matt Ryan led the team in passing with 118 yards, however, he did not record a touchdown.
