Hokies Head to ACC Football Kickoff

CHARLOTTE — Virginia Tech head football coach Justin Fuente will be accompanied by a trio of juniors for ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte. Quarterback Braxton Burmeister, defensive back Chamarri Conner, and tight end James Mitchell.

Burmeister competed in six games for the Hokies in 2020 while battling numerous injuries throughout the COVID-plagued campaign. Charmarri Conner will don the No. 1 jersey for the Hokies defense for 2021 after starting 11 games for the team last season. Mitchell, who has a legitimate opportunity to be the second Virginia Tech tight end drafted in three years, will have another chance to display his versatility.

Fuente will undoubtedly receive questions regarding his job status heading into the season following an offseason filled with uncertainty. Hokies AD Whit Babcock publicly vouched for Fuente and his staff at a December press conference, but naturally, those questions will persist. Fuente and his team have had plenty of practice blocking out the noise over the past year and that experience has the chance to pay dividends in 2021.
