The Air Force Falcons (1–0) return from their bye week with fresh legs and sharpened focus, opening Mountain West play under the lights against the Utah State Aggies (1–1) on Saturday at 9:45 p.m. ET on FS1.
For Air Force, this is more than a game — it is a statement of intent. After throttling Bucknell 49–13 in their opener, the Falcons now turn toward conference competition, looking to ground an Aggies team eager to spoil the flight path.
Air Force Offense: Precision and Balance
In Week 1, Air Force displayed the same discipline and efficiency that has long defined Falcon football.
- Cade Harris shined as the do-it-all playmaker, scoring three touchdowns (two on the ground, one through the air) while piling up 149 total yards.
- Quin Smith made the most of his only catch — a 40-yard strike for six.
- On the ground, Kade Frew (52 yards), Dylan Carson (51 yards), and Maguire Martin (one rushing TD) added depth to the backfield attack.
The Falcons finished with 426 total yards of offense, ranking 52nd nationally, while their 49 points placed them 12th in scoring.
Falcon Defense: Relentless Pressure
Air Force’s defense looked like a unit in midseason form. The front seven suffocated Bucknell, tallying six sacks:
- Isaac Hubert: 2 sacks
- Grady Forsythe: 1.5 sacks
- Lukia Rawls Jr. & Jackson Adams: 1 each
- Jake Kepler: 0.5 sack
Blake Fletcher set the tone with 11 tackles, while Roger Jones Jr. added an interception to cap the effort.
The Falcons allowed just 266 yards and 18 points, ranking 38th nationally in both categories.
The Rivalry with Utah State
This will be the 13th all-time meeting between the programs. Air Force holds a narrow 7–5 series lead, including a 39–21 win in 2023. The Aggies, however, bring a physical edge and will test Air Force’s ability to impose tempo from the opening snap.
Keys to the Game
- Air Force Run Game vs. Aggies’ Front Seven – If Harris and the stable of backs find rhythm, the Aggies could spend most of the night chasing shadows.
- Defensive Line Pressure – Can Air Force replicate the six-sack performance against a stronger Utah State front?
- Turnover Battle – Air Force thrives on discipline; protecting the football will be paramount.
- Road Environment – Playing in Logan always carries altitude challenges. Poise and conditioning could decide the fourth quarter.
Prediction
Air Force enters this matchup rested, confident, and cohesive. Utah State will punch back early, but the Falcons’ discipline, defensive pressure, and explosive versatility from Harris should be too much to overcome. Expect Air Force to take control by halftime and cruise to a statement win.
Projected Final: Air Force 34, Utah State 17
