The backup role for the Falcons suffered a hit on Saturday against Miami after AJ McCarron injured his knee in the 2nd quarter. After struggling to get off the field on his own power, and evaluation, the Falcons, announced Sunday that the QB had suffered a torn ACL which will end his 2021 season.
McCarron had been battling quarterback Felipe Franks for the backup role to Matt Ryan. His numbers were stacking up well to the versatile Franks, with 8-18 passing for 79 yards and no touchdowns with one interception.
Franks has gone 6-18, passing for 62-yards with one interception. However, Franks also brings versatility to the game with his mobility, rushing for 108 yards on seven carries in two preseason games so far.
