Army Dismantles Georgia State in Atlanta

Army stormed Atlanta with intention, as they crushed Georgia State 43-10 to kick off the 2021 college football season.

Here’s how it all went down in Atlanta.

It was clear early on that the Black Knights of Army overmatched the Panthers. Georgia State started with possession and would quickly relinquish possession with a fumble to give Army the ball at the GSU 40 yard line.

It would take the Black Knights just eight plays, all on the ground, to punch it into the endzone. Tyson Riley’s 4-yd TD rush was the start of three straight touchdown drives to start the game for Army.

With 8:12 left in the 1st half, it was 21-0 Black Knights. They had 154 yards of total offense compared to just two by the Panthers of GSU.

Following the third score of the game for Army, Georgia State would finally get something going. Quarterback Cornelious Brown IV put together a methodical 75-yard scoring drive on ten plays to give the Panthers life with 4:03 left in the half.

In the second half, the Black Knights continued their assault. On their second drive of the half, Christian Anderson connected with Tyrell Robinson for a 40-yard touchdown.

Georgia State would answer the score with a solid drive of their own. They were able to put together a 13-play 60-yard drive that looked promising. However, they would have to settle for a 33-yard Noel Ruiz field goal as they cut the deficit to 23.

Army didn’t pump the breaks and went right back down the field on a 60-yard drive of their own. After getting down to the 5-yard line, Cole Talley would tack on a 22-yard field goal with 12:07 left to play, making it 36-10 Black Knights.

As things winded down, Army’s Jemel Jones would connect with Braheem Murphy for a 32-yard TD reception to put the final stamp on this one.

Army dominated the ground game, led by Christian Anderson’s 15 carries for 55 yards. As a team, the Black Knights had 258 yards rushing on 68 carries Saturday. Georgia State had 48 rushing yards and just 177 total offensive yards.

Army heads back home where they will host Western Kentucky next week. Meanwhile, Georgia State will head on the road to face North Carolina, who was just upset by Virginia Tech on Friday.
