ATH: First Group of Buckeyes Departs Wednesday for Costa Rica GVI Trip

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A group of 13 Ohio State student-athletes is headed to Costa Rica May 2-9 in partnership with Global Vision International (GVI). The Buckeyes will engage in sports-related and life skills activities in Quepos, Costa Rica.

Joshua Alabi – FB

Joshua Alabi is a fourth-year junior who is vying for playing time along the offensive line. He is coming off a 2017 season that saw him play in 10 games for the Big Ten champion Buckeyes and earn his first Varsity O letter. Alabi has played in a total of 15 games through his first two seasons. He is majoring in family resource management.

Joey Bonanno – MGYM

Joey Bonanno is a three-year letterwinner on the Ohio State men’s gymnastics team. A 2017 All-American, Bonanno is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten pick who has career bests of 14.500 on floor and 14.350 on vault.

Rob Delagrange – PISTOL

Robbie Delagrange was a sophomore on the 2018 National Champion Pistol team, competing in 11 events throughout the season. He posted a 3-gun aggregate season average of 1,528, including a 1,556 shooting at the U.S. Naval Academy. The Hartville, Ohio native registered specialized averages 532 (air), 505 (standard) and 478 (free) while earning OSU Scholar-Athlete honors.

Camry Halm – WVB

During her two years in Scarlet & Gray, Camry Halm has seen action in 52 matches and 134 sets. She has totaled 179 digs, 22 assists and 12 service aces as a defensive specialist.

Justin Hilliard – FB

Justin Hilliard is coming off a fine 2018 spring football drills and he enters fall camp this August vying for playing time and a possible starting role at one linebacker position. A fourth-year junior, Hilliard earned his first Varsity O letter in 2017 by playing in all 14 games for the Big Ten champion Buckeyes. He is majoring in family resource management.

Janelle McClelland – WGYM

Janelle McClelland competed in every meet for the Buckeyes during her junior campaign, primarily on vault and floor exercise. She scored a career-high 9.900 on floor against Minnesota and Illinois State. She also had a career-best 9.825 on vault against Penn State and Kentucky.

Marike Mousset – WSOC

Marike Mousset is a three-year women’s soccer letterwinner for the Buckeyes. Mousset, a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and an Academic All-Big Ten pick in 2017, has played in 31 matches, making 21 starts in her two seasons. The right back scored her first-career goal and notched her first assist this past season.

Alex Nichols – MSOC

Alex Nichols, a rising senior on the Ohio State men’s soccer team, has played in 37 games with 16 starts. He’s scored two goals and has registered 1,700 minutes on the pitch in three seasons. A native of Fishers, Ind., Nichols is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and OSU Scholar-Athlete.

Micah Potter – MBK

Micah Potter has appeared in 59 games, making 16 starts, for in two seasons for the Ohio State men’s basketball team. Potter, who’s averaged 4.1 points and 2.8 rebounds, is a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and an Academic All-Big Ten pick.

Liv Soares – WHKY

Liv Soares contributed to the best season in program history, playing in 32 games as the team advanced to the Frozen Four for the first time in 2018. Through her two seasons in the Scarlet and Gray she’s appeared in 69 games.

Emma von Dadelszen – FENC

Emma von Dadelszen, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, finished sixth at the 2018 NCAA championship for women’s fencing with 15 victorious bouts in women’s epee. Dadelszen is a health sciences major and a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete. She finished third at the Midwest Region and earned the epee title at MFC Championships. She also finished first at the OSU Open and recorded 18 wins at the Elite Invitational during her junior season.

Makayla Waterman – WBK

Makayla Waterman is a three-year letterwinner on the women’s basketball team. She has played in all but five games over the past three seasons and has averaged 3.3 points and 3.6 rebounds. She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology this spring and will be in grad school at Ohio State in the fall.

Noah Worobetz – SWIM

Noah Worobetz is a three-year letterwinner for the Ohio State swimming and diving team. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten pick and OSU Scholar-Athlete, Worobetz tallied the Buckeyes’ ninth-fastest time in the 200 backstroke and 10th-best time in the 100 backstroke this past season.
