Baylor Beats Down On Bobcats In Waco

Baylor RB Richard Reese led the way with three touchdowns on 156 yards and 19 carries as the #17 Baylor Bears beat the Texas State Bobcats 42-7. Reese’s three-touchdown day was highlighted by a 52-yard run at the beginning of the fourth quarter. 

Reese scored for the first time in the first quarter on a 14-yard run.

In the second quarter, Craig Williams scored on a 30-yard run to bring the score to 14-0 Baylor. Texas State would then score on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Layne Hatcher to Ashtyn Hawkins to make the score 14-7. 

Baylor would then score 28 unanswered points beginning with 26 seconds left in the first half when QB Blake Shapen ran for 35 yards. 

Gavin Holmes would score the only touchdown in the thirdwhen he caught a 28-yard pass from Shapen. 

Reese would go on to score twice for Baylor, the second score a five-yard score. 

Shapen went 15/26 for 184 yards and a touchdown. 

Baylor rushed 37 times for 293 yards and five touchdowns. Williams carried eight times for 56 yards and a score. Shapenadded 42 yards on three carries and a score. 

Holmes had three catches for 46 yards and the score.

Baylor did turn the ball over three times but the defense kept Texas State at bay. Al Walcott had nine tackles for the Bears. 

Neither team was particularly good on third down with Baylor going 4/11 while Texas State went 4/14.

#12 Baylor (2-1) is at Iowa State next Saturday for its Big 12 opener.

Texas State (1-2) will host Houston Baptist Saturday night.
