The Clemson Tigers moved to 3-1 and 2-0 in the ACC after defeating the California Golden Bears 24-10. Gideon Davidson lead the way with 22 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers who ran 49 times for 255.
Things got off to a bad start for Clemson when Tait Reynolds threw an interception just four plays into the game. The Tigers defense stepped up, taking the ball right back with an interception of its own by DB Elliot Washington II. Clemson couldn’t take advantage and ended up punting the ball. Cal would turn it over on downs but then would score after a Clemson
fumble.
The Tigers took the lead in the second quarter, after a Clemson field goal and a Cal punt, Clemson had a 17-play drive for 66 yards that ended with a Davidson score from a yard out. Cal had a chance to tie it but missed their field goal attempt.
Cal would tie it 10-10 in the third quarter. Clemson took the lead for good when Bryant Wesco Jr. returned the punt for a 39 yard score.
In the fourth, Clemson missed a field goal but the defense forced a punt. Clemson would score its final touchdown, a 75-yard Davidson run. Cal threw an interception that sealed the game for the Tigers.
Clemson held Cal to 13 first downs and 3/12 on third down. Both teams had two turnovers.
Reynolds went 13/21 for 108 yards and an interception. Tyler Brown had three catches for 29 yards. T.J. Moore also had three catches for 24 yards. Washington II had two interceptions for the Tigers.
