IRVING, Texas – The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation and Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) continued the tradition of celebrating teachers, participating in Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2 – 6, 2016.

On National Teacher Appreciation Day, Tuesday, May 3, the CFP Foundation helped celebrate remarkable educators at the White House as President Obama honored the 2016 National Teacher of the Year and finalists, alongside teachers from across the country.

On Friday, May 6, the CFP Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education partnered to host the “Playmakers of Education Celebration: Powered by Extra Yard for Teachers.” The event, hosted at Cardozo Education Campus Football Stadium, honored Washington, D.C. math teachers and the vital role they play in the lives of students.

Attendees included James Cole, Jr., deputy secretary of education, D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson, D.C. councilmembers David Grosso and Brianne Nadeau and Talon, the D.C. United mascot.

The two events continue the mission of the CFP Foundation and EYFT, aiming to honor, celebrate, inspire and empower educators. Founded in 2013, EYFT is comprised of four main program components: (1) direct provision of resources, (2) teacher recognition, (3) professional development and leadership training and (4) inspiring a college-going culture.
