The big story for Saturday’s game is that quarterback D’Eriq King will be behind center for the Coogs, as former starting quarterback Kyle Postma was benched last weekend. King gave Houston a shot in the arm last week and scored the game-winning touchdown last week to give Houston the win over USF.
ECU comes in having lost three of their last four games, with that one win coming last week against BYU Cougars. I don’t see ECU being a threat to Houston, but there will be a couple players to keep an eye on for the Pirates.
ECU wide receiver Davon Grayson is a big play threat so Houston defensive backs Alex Myres, Jeremy Winchester and Garrett Davis will need to keep eyes on Grayson at all times.
Keep an eye on the Pirates quarterback position as well. Quarterbacks Thomas Sirk and Gardner Minshew have split time and are solid at the position. ECU hasn’t been able to find their running game this year, so the Coogs won’t have to focus much on stopping the run game.
King should have a solid day Saturday as ECU allows over 320 yards a game through the air. King is also a dual-threat quarterback so he has the opportunity to be productive on the ground as well. The Pirates allow over 250 yards a game to opposing rushing attacks.
Houston head coach Major Applewhite I’m sure, is very relieved to finally have found a starting quarterback. King was hurt in the team’s scrimmage before the season started and when he returned, he spent some time at wide receiver.
Now that Applewhite has exhausted his options at the position, King has been implemented into the quarterback spot, and this game will be another victory to keep building on. King and the Coogs will defeat ECU soundly by a score of 35-14.
