As the month of May heats up, Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) is set to deliver an electrifying start to the summer with Miller Lite Carb Day on Friday, May 24. Dubbed as the “unofficial start to summer,” this action-packed day serves as the perfect prelude to the Indianapolis 500, promising a mix of high-speed, adrenaline-pumping events and world-class entertainment.
IMS President J. Douglas Boles emphasized the significance of the day, saying, “Miller Lite Carb Day is the unofficial start to summer and the kickoff to race weekend. It’s a full day of fun, with something for everyone to enjoy. It’s a day like no other at the Racing Capital of the World.”
The festivities kick off early at 8 a.m., giving fans plenty of time to soak in the atmosphere and find the best spots before the stars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES hit the iconic 2.5-mile oval for the final practice session before the 108th Indianapolis 500. This practice is crucial for teams and drivers as they make their last-minute adjustments and strategies.
Following the on-track action, the sky will take center stage with exhilarating aerial demonstrations by the Thunderbirds and the Red Bull Air Force. The Thunderbirds, the prestigious U.S. Air Force Demonstration Squadron, will give fans a sneak peek of their Race Day flyover with a practice session. Meanwhile, the Red Bull Air Force will showcase breathtaking stunts that blur the lines between audacity and artistry.
The ground events are just as thrilling, featuring the iconic Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge, a test of speed and skill where pit crews from top racing teams compete against the clock to perform the fastest tire change and simulated refueling. Last year’s champion, Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing, will defend his title against stiff competition, including perennial contenders from Team Penske.
Adding to the day’s dynamic atmosphere will be DJ Mystro, an Indianapolis native known for his high-energy sets and ability to energize crowds, performing during the Pit Stop Challenge. Later in the day, the musical entertainment continues to ramp up with performances by local talent Kid Quill, followed by the Gin Blossoms, and headlined by rock legends George Thorogood & The Destroyers.
The gates for the Miller Lite Carb Day Concert will open at 2 p.m., setting the stage for an extended session of musical performances that promise to keep the energy high and the spirits soaring.
Tickets for Miller Lite Carb Day are available now, with general admission starting at just $45. These tickets not only grant access to the concert but also to all the on-track activities, including the final INDYCAR practice and the Pit Stop Challenge. With an offer that children 15 and under enter free with a paying adult, IMS ensures that Carb Day remains a family-friendly event.
As anticipation for the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500 builds, Carb Day is set to mark the beginning of what could be the most memorable weekend in the history of racing. With a blend of speed, skill, and showmanship, May 24 at IMS is poised to be a day like no other.
