Two teams fighting to keep their postseason dreams alive will square off Saturday night in Lexington as the Florida Gators (3-5) visit the Kentucky Wildcats (3-5) in SEC play. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
Recent Results
Florida is coming off a heartbreaking 24-20 loss to Georgia on Nov. 1 — a game that slipped away late after the Gators led 20-17 in the fourth quarter. Freshman quarterback DJ Lagway threw for 166 yards and a touchdown, while running back Jadan Baugh added 72 yards and a score on 15 carries.
Receiver Eugene Wilson III continued his strong season, catching nine passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Kentucky, meanwhile, relied on its defense in a 10-3 win over Auburn. Quarterback Cutter Boley passed for 161 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice. Running back Seth McGowan carried 21 times for 53 yards, and receiver Kendrick Law hauled in the game’s only touchdown catch.
What’s at Stake
With both teams sitting at 3-5, Saturday’s game carries major bowl eligibility implications. The loser will need to win out to secure a postseason berth — a tall order given the schedules ahead.
Kentucky faces Tennessee Tech next week in what should be a manageable matchup, but then closes the season against No. 16 Vanderbilt and No. 15 Louisville.
Florida’s remaining stretch is even tougher: a road trip to No. 6 Ole Miss, a home game versus No. 25 Tennessee, and the annual rivalry clash with Florida State to end the year.
Keys to the Game
For Florida, the focus is on closing out games. Costly mistakes and poor execution late against Georgia cost the Gators a potential upset. Lagway’s decision-making will be critical, as Kentucky’s defense thrives on forcing turnovers.
For the Wildcats, offensive production remains the biggest concern. They’ve averaged just 13 points over their last three games, putting extra pressure on their defense to hold opponents in check.
