Florida State and Miami Ready for Rivalry Matchup

Two in-state rivals are set to face off as the Florida State Seminoles (0-1) look to get to .500 as they travel to Miami to take on the #12 Miami Hurricanes (2-0) Saturday on ABC at 7:30 PM EST. The Hurricanes hold the all-time series lead at 34-20.

The Seminoles are coming off of a tough 16-13 loss last week at home to Georgia Tech. Florida State held a 10-0 at the half but couldn’t hold on to win. They committed three turnovers in the game and will look to correct that against the Hurricanes to prevent the turnover chain from making an appearance.

Despite the loss, special teams played a huge role. They recorded three blocks in the game. Consensus preseason All-American defensive tackle Marvin Wilson blocked both field goals. An extra point attempt was also blocked. Wilson also had three tackles. Preseason All-ACC defensive back Asante Samuel Jr. had two interceptions for the Seminoles.

The offense had its struggles, only putting up 307 total yards with their defense and special teams stepping up to give them opportunities. The Seminoles rushed 35 times for 109 yards. Nobody ran over 40 yards with quarterback Jordan Travis and running back La’Damian Webb, both rushed for 39 yards apiece.

James Blackman was 23/43 for 198 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The Hurricanes are fresh off of a win over then #18 ranked Louisville Cardinals 47-34 in Louisville. It was the Hurricane’s first road win over a top-20 opponent since 2009. Quarterback D’Eriq King threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns. Tight end Brevin Jordan hauled in seven receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown.

The running backs had a big day for Miami. Cam’Ron Harris had 134 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown, while Jaylan Knighton added two scores.

Despite giving up 34 points and 516 yards of total offense, the defense forced the Cardinals to a 4 for 14 showing on third down. They also forced three turnovers and recorded ten tackles for a loss. Safety Bubba Bolden had a career-high 11 tackles and a forced fumble. Linebacker Zach McCloud had nine tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery for the Hurricanes.
