Fourth-Seeded Men’s Golf Heading to 13th Straight NCAA Regional

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The 22^nd-ranked Florida State Men’s Golf Team earned a No. 4 seed in the Norman, Okla., Regional as the NCAA Golf Selection Show revealed all 81 team selections Wednesday evening on the Golf Channel.

The Seminoles are in a 14-team regional that goes from May 14-16. Other teams in the regional include No. 1 seed Oklahoma, No. 2 Auburn, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 5 UNF, No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 7 BYU, eighth-seeded Virginia, No. 9 San Diego State, No. 10 Nevada, Sam Houston State (11), UMKC (12), Navy (13) and Prairie View A&M (14).

The Seminoles will make their 13th consecutive NCAA Regional trip, having made the post-season in every year since 2006. If FSU finishes in the Top 5 of its regional, it would reach its seventh consecutive NCAA Championship. Its current run of six straight appearances leads the ACC and is tied for the fifth-longest active streak nationally.

The Florida State men’s and women’s golf programs will have each made 13 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances. The women’s team will host its regional on May 7-9at the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course.

Florida State has two golfers in freshman John Pak and redshirt senior Harry Ellis whom are ranked in the Top 12 of the ACC in scoring average. Pak was recently named a Jack Nicklaus Award Semifinalist and was the ACC Golfer of the Month in March.

Ellis leads the Seminoles with two tournament victories this year. In nine tournaments played this year, the team captain has earned three Top-5 finishes.

Junior Bennett Baker has been FSU’s hottest golfer as of late, garnering two Top-10 finishes in his last two tournaments played. The Tallahassee native tied for sixth at the Gary Koch Invitational on April 10, then tied for eighth at the ACC Championship on April 22.

Last year, FSU braved the chilly conditions out at its regional in Sammamish, Wash., in the Great Northwest and finished in the Top 5 to reach the NCAA Championship. FSU tied for third overall as Ellis shot an impressive 3-under at a challenging course.

Contested in back-to-back weeks, May 18-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., Golf Channel will dedicate its full suite of production resources to the NCAA Women’s and Men’s Golf Championships, featuring nearly 30 combined hours of live tournament coverage. In addition, Golf Central will feature nearly 30 hours of combined pre-and post-event live news coverage produced on location, as well as daily news updates on Morning Drive and Golf Channel Digital.
