Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs: Game Preview

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets aim for a 2-0 start when they host Gardner-Webb on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and ACC Extra. Georgia Tech is coming off a 27-20 win over Colorado, while Gardner-Webb seeks another high-powered performance after a dramatic 52-45 comeback victory over Western Carolina.

Georgia Tech fell behind 7-0 after the first quarter before rallying to take a 13-10 lead into halftime and never trailing again. The ground game carried the load, with the Yellow Jackets rushing 47 times for 320 yards and three touchdowns. James King led the way with 19 carries for 156 yards and all three scores. Jamal Haynes added 65 yards on 16 carries.

Turnovers were an early problem, as the Yellow Jackets gave the ball away on their first three possessions. However, they found their rhythm, scoring on five of their final seven drives.

Gardner-Webb staged a stunning rally last week after trailing 35-7 in the second quarter. The Runnin’ Bulldogs poured in 24 points in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback. Quarterback Nate Hampton powered the offense, going 12 of 30 for 263 yards and two touchdowns through the air while also rushing for 132 yards and four scores on 28 carries. Quasean Holmes contributed 116 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Chris Lofton provided big-play ability with three receptions for 102 yards, while Anthony Lowe caught five passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns.
