The Green Bay Packers (1-0) will face the Detroit Lions (0-1) at Lambeau Field in Green Bay Sunday at 1 PM EST. on FOX. It’s the first home game of the season for the Packers. They defeated the Vikings 43-34 while the Lions lost a heartbreaker to the Chicago Bears 27-23 after leading for most of the game.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a great opening game going 32/44 for 364 yards and four touchdowns. The offensive line kept him upright as Rodgers was rarely hit.
The Packers ran 32 times for 158 yards and a touchdown. Aaron Jones had 16 carries for 66 yards and the touchdown. Rodgers favorite target, Davante Adams had 14 receptions for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Marquez Valdes-Scantling had an up and down game. He finished the game last week with four receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown but also dropped a pass that would’ve went for a first down and possibly a lot more and also dropped a potential touchdown pass. Allen Lazard also had four receptions for 63 yards and added a score.
The Packers will look to get off to a faster start against the Lions. They spent most of the first half in Vikings territory but struggled to get into the endzone.
The defense did give up 34 points and had trouble stopping the run at times, something that cost them a potential spot in the Super Bowl last year. They gave up 134 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. They also gave up two touchdown passes from Vikings QB Kirk Cousins. The defense was able to sack Cousins twice and intercept him once.
Lions QB Matthew Stafford was sacked once and had a touchdown and an interception last week. The Packers will have to find a way to slow down running back Adrian Peterson who ran 14 times for 93 yards against the Bears last week.
The Packers will be without defensive tackle Kenny Clark (goin), wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (knee), and guard Lane Taylor (knee). Guard/tackle Billy Turner is questionable (knee)
