Hurricanes Trounce Seminoles, Move to 2-0

The #12 Miami Hurricanes beat in-state rival Florida State in convincing fashion 52-10. With the win, the Hurricanes move to 2-0, and the Seminoles are off to a rough 0-2 start. Penalties and turnovers hurt the Seminoles throughout the game. The Seminoles committed three turnovers from three different quarterbacks and committed 12 penalties for 113 yards.

The Hurricanes first score came on a 13 play, 75-yard drive that was capped off with quarterback D’Eriq King with a 24-yard score to tight end Brevin Jordan. After a Seminole field goal to bring the score to 7-3, the Hurricanes responded with another touchdown. Another long drive of 15 plays for 79 yards ended when running back Cam’Ron Harris scored from three yards out.

Harris would find the end zone again in the second quarter, this time with a 12-yard score. Florida State fumbled on the next drive but recovered only for quarterback Jordan Travis to throw an interception to defensive lineman Jaelan Phillips. The Hurricanes capitalized three plays later with King’s second touchdown pass of the day, a 40 yarder to wide receiver Dee Wiggins for a 28-3 score.

Miami would score once more before halftime when Donald Chaney Jr. scored from two yards out for a 35-3 lead. A field goal as time expired in the first half gave the Hurricanes a 38-3 lead. Florida State found the end zone on its first possession of the second half when Blackman completed a pass to Cameren McDonald for 12 yards to bring the score to 38-10.

Chaney Jr. would find the end zone again to start the fourth quarter with a five-yard run. After the third interception by Florida State and both teams trading punts, the Hurricanes’ final score came when backup quarterback N’Kosi Perry found Michael Redding III for seven yards for the 52-10 win.

King finished 29/40 for 267 yards and two touchdowns. Perry went 4/7 for 50 yards and the score. King was the leading rusher for Miami with 65 yards. Harris finished with 43 yards on 12 carries and the two scores while Chaney Jr. had 35 yards and two scores.

Wiggins had three receptions for 54 yards and the score, and Jordan had five receptions for 41 yards and a score. Eleven different Hurricanes caught a pass.

The Hurricane defense was in the backfield all night, recording six sacks and 13 tackles for losses. Safety Bubba Bolden had an interception and a forced fumble to go along with four tackles. Cornerback Al Blades Jr. had the other interception for Miami.

Florida State will try to get into the win column next week as they welcome Jacksonville State to town.

Miami is off before traveling to take on the #1 Clemson Tigers.
