Kurt Busch Wins the Pole for the 1000Bulbs 500 at Talladega, 1st Ever Restrictor Plate Pole

Written by Adrian Beecher

Talladega, AL – Kurt Busch ran a 48.906-second lap time during qualifying at Talladega Superspeedway to win the pole for Sunday’s 1000Bulbs 500. It marked Busch’s first restrictor plate pole.

He beat out teammate Clint Bowyer, who ran a 49.032-second lap. Ironically, the Stewart-Hass team claimed the top four spots during qualifying, with Kevin Harvick claiming 3rd and Aric Almirola in 4th.

All four drivers remain in the playoffs, hinting for one of the spots in the round of 8. In fact, only Chase Elliott has sealed his place in the round of 8 with a win last week at Dover. Elliott will start fifth on Sunday.

Missing out on the 2nd round of qualifying with a 13th fastest time was Daniel Suarez, who ran a 49.729-second lap time.

Only one car failed to qualify, that being the No. 97 of David Starr.

You can watch Sunday’s 1000Bulbs500 from Talladega Superspeedway on NBC or listen to it on MRN radio.
