The Marshall Thundering Herd (2-2) aim to secure a winning record Saturday night when they host the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (2-2). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. EST on ESPN+.

Season Recap

Marshall faced a difficult opener, falling 45-7 on the road to then-No. 5 Georgia. The following week brought more heartbreak as the Herd dropped a 21-20 nail-biter to Missouri State. Since then, however, Marshall has found momentum, picking up back-to-back wins over Eastern Kentucky (38-7) and Middle Tennessee (42-28).

By the Numbers

Offense:
•    Total Offense: 326.8 yards per game
•    Passing: 146.8 yards per game
•    Rushing: 180 yards per game
•    Scoring: 26.8 points per game

Despite modest offensive production, Marshall has leaned on its ground game to find consistency. The offensive line, though, has given up eight sacks in four games, something Louisiana will look to exploit.

What to Watch

Quarterback play remains an ongoing storyline. Three different signal-callers have seen the field this season, with Carlos Del Rio-Wilson currently leading the way. Protecting him will be crucial if Marshall hopes to sustain drives and avoid costly turnovers.

Team Leaders
•    Passing: Carlos Del Rio-Wilson – 379 yards, 6 TD, 0 INT
•    Rushing: Michael Allen – 28 carries, 135 yards, 1 TD
•    Receiving: Demarcus Lacey – 10 receptions, 129 yards, 1 TD
•    Tackles: Kerion Martin – 25
•    Sacks: Jamaal Whyce Jr. – 2.5
•    Interceptions: Boogie Trotter – 2

Prediction

With confidence building after two straight wins, Marshall has an opportunity to make a statement at home. If the offensive line can keep Del Rio-Wilson upright, the Herd should control the tempo with their rushing attack and opportunistic defense.

Prediction: Marshall 38, Louisiana 16
