Orlando Pride suffers their 2nd home defeat of the season, against Chicago Red Stars.

(July 16, 2016) – Orlando Pride suffers their 7th defeat of the season this time against Chicago Red Stars, in a game that Chicago created the opportunities and Orlando was the holder of the possession of the ball.

Orlando Pride suffered the loss of key players, Steph Catley, Laura Alleway, Monica, Josée Bélanger, Ashlyn Harris and the captain Alex Morgan, who are away with their national teams preparing for the upcoming summer Olympics.

The first half clearly dominated by the Chicago Red Stars with more than seven shots on goal and an always knocking on Kristen Savage’s goal. The first goal scored in the 23rd minuted of the game by Taylor Comeau, a powerful header that Kaitlyn Savage was not going to be able to save.

In the second half, Orlando Pride got a great momentum with Kristen Edmonds playing more like an offensive midfielder; this helped Orlando created several chances. The game was suspended in the 74th minute of the match due to weather conditions and was going to restart 30 minutes later after a short warm up. Orlando Pride could not recover for this break even though they created a few chances the Chicago Red Stars took away the 3 points from Camping World Stadium.

In the postgame conference Orlando Pride’s coach, Tom Sermanni, addressed his thoughts about today’s defeat “It was the disappointment the result but I’m happy with the effort, and I think that if we win the next game, we are back in the race for the playoff”.

Orlando Pride will travel next Saturday, July 23rd, to Seattle to face the Reign at the Memorial Stadium. With this defeat, Orlando Pride stays in the 5th place with 18 points while Chicago locks the 4th place with 21 points.
