Ohio (8-4), representing the Mid-American Conference and San Diego State (7-5), representing the Mountain West Conference will square off Dec. 19 at 8 PM EST at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas on ESPN in the DXL Frisco Bowl. It is the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Ohio will be playing in its fourth consecutive bowl game. Last year the Bobcats were victorious in the Bahamas Bowl. Running back A.J. Ouellette earned All-MAC First Team honors leads the Bobcats into the contest. Ouellette has 184 carries for 1,142 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Bobcats are averaging 41.2 points a game while allowing 26.7. The Bobcats didn’t face any ranked teams this season but holds victories over Bowling Green, Ball State, Western Michigan, Buffalo, Akron, Kent State, UMASS, and Howard.
San Diego State will be playing in its ninth consecutive bowl game. They lost last year in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl game. Linebacker Kyahya Tezino is the leader on the defensive side of the ball. He has 120 tackles (14.5 for a loss), 8.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hurries. San Diego State is averaging 22.3 points a game while allowing 21.8. The Aztecs started the year off with a blowout loss to then ranked 13th Stanford. The Aztecs bounced back and rallied off six wins in a row including a win against a then ranked 23rd Arizona State team. It’s seventh win on the season came against the University of New Mexico before dropping its final three games.
