Talladega, AL – Ryan Blaney led the field to the green flag to start stage 2 at Talladega Superspeedway. The caution came out shortly after the restart as Jimmy Johnson got loose and spun coming out of the tri-oval after overcorrecting.
The field would go back green with 44 laps to go in the stage, with Kevin Harvick in the lead with his Stewart -Hass teammates in 2dn, 3rd, and 4th. However, a lap later, Kyle Busch would take over the lead, starting a back and forth battle between him and Harvick. On the inside lane, it was Harvick, Bowyer, Almirola and Kurt Busch of Stewart-Hass Racing, on the outside, it was Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones of the Joe Gibbs Racing Team.
The Outside line would soon fade and the Stewart-Hass team would control things until there were only 9 laps to go in the stage. That’s when the caution came out as Kyle Larson blew a right-front tire and took a spin down the Alabama Gang Backstretch.
With three laps to go in the stage, the field went back to green with Harvick still in the lead and his three Stewart-Hass teammates rounding out the top 4.
Harvick would hold on a win the stage with his teammates rounding out the top four.
