For the second week in a row, it was upset Saturday as six ranked teams lost unranked teams. 11TH ranked UCF Knights (2-1) fell to Tulsa Golden Hurricane (1-1) 34-26. Tulsa came back from an 18-point deficit late in the second quarter.
UCF quarterback Dillion Gabriel went 28 for 51 for 330 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown came in the first quarter when Gabriel connected on a 12-yard pass to Jacob Harris. After both teams traded interceptions, Tulsa gave the ball back again on a fumble.
UCF couldn’t capitalize and punted the ball, but the defense was able to get a safety for a 9-0 score. Otis Anderson then ran for a 49-yard score for the Knights. Tulsa got a safety of their own and followed that up with a field goal to bring the score to 16-5.
After each team scored a touchdown, the half ended on another UCF fumble. Despite the sloppy play by both teams, UCF held a 23-12 halftime lead. UCF started the third quarter the same way the second ended, with a fumble. Tulsa capitalized on the very next play when Zach Smith found Sam Crawford Jr. for a 34-yard score to bring Tulsa closer 23-19.
After a UCF field goal, Tulsa scored another touchdown to bring them within one. After a UCF turnover on downs and both teams trading punts, Tulsa took its first lead of the game when Smith completed a 13-yard pass to Keylon Stokes for a 31-26 lead. Tulsa would add a field goal.
Besides the safeties, both teams had three turnovers and had a lot of penalties. For UCF, they committed eight for 124 yards. For the Knights, Anderson carried 17 times for 84 yards. Receivers Jaylon Robinson and Marlon Williams had a good day. Robinson had three receptions for 111 yards while Williams had nine for 98 yards.
