The UCF Knights aim to start the year 2–0 when they welcome the North Carolina A&T Aggies to Orlando on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+. Both teams opened their seasons with close games, though the outcomes were very different. UCF edged Jacksonville State 17–10, while A&T let opportunities slip away in a 24–21 defeat against Tennessee State.
First Meeting
This will be the first-ever matchup between the Knights and the Aggies. UCF enters under the leadership of head coach Scott Frost, who returned to the program for his second stint. North Carolina A&T enters the contest looking for its first win of the year and a chance to shock a bigger-name opponent on the road.
UCF Knights Outlook
Offense
Quarterback Tayven Jackson was efficient in his debut, completing 17 of 24 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns. He spread the ball around with poise and confidence, while also keeping drives alive with short passes underneath.
Running back Myles Montgomery carried the ball 21 times for 79 yards, showing reliability between the tackles. He also flashed his versatility as the team’s leading receiver, hauling in three passes for 71 yards. Big-play threats came from DJ Black (59 yards, 1 TD) and Dylan Wade (54 yards, 1 TD).
Defense
UCF’s defense controlled the flow by limiting Jacksonville State to just 3-of-15 on third downs.
Lewis Carter paced the team with nine tackles. Phillip Dunnam added eight stops, showcasing consistency in open-field tackling. Jayden Bellamy grabbed an interception that swung momentum in the Knights’ favor.
North Carolina A&T Aggies Outlook
Offense
Quarterback Braxton Thomas was sharp in Week 1, completing 11 of 13 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown. His accuracy gave the Aggies stability under center.
Running back Wesley Graves chipped in 69 rushing yards on 14 carries with one score, giving A&T balance. Out wide, Amonte Jones made his presence felt with four catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Concerns
The Aggies’ biggest issue was turnovers. Running back Champ Long fumbled three times, losing two of them, and the team gave the ball away three times overall. Against a disciplined UCF squad, those mistakes could be costly.
Key Matchups
Turnovers: UCF was clean in its opener, while A&T struggled with ball security. Winning the turnover battle is critical for the Aggies to stay competitive. Quarterback Play: Both Thomas and Jackson were efficient last week. Whoever adjusts better against a tougher defense may decide the game. Explosive Plays: UCF showed big-play potential through the air, while A&T found success with Jones on the outside. Limiting chunk plays will be vital.
Intangibles
UCF has the clear advantage in talent, depth, and home-field support. The Knights are favored to control the line of scrimmage and wear down the Aggies over four quarters. Still, A&T’s efficiency on offense suggests they can move the ball if they protect it.
Prediction
Expect UCF to lean on its defense and balanced offense to control this game. If A&T avoids turnovers, it may keep things interesting into the second half. But if the same mistakes from Week 1 resurface, UCF has enough firepower to pull away early.
