UCF ready for first Peach Bowl against Auburn

Written By Brian Pohl
Orlando, FL- The 12th ranked, and undefeated, UCF Knights are headed to a New Year’s Six bowl game as the Knights will take on the 7th ranked Auburn Tigers in the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia.

After the announcement that Scott Frost, the now former head coach of UCF, will be the next head coach of Nebraska next season, the newly crowned American Athletic Conference champion UCF Knights will look to interim head coach Troy Walters to lead the team. Walters will assume all duties heading into the bowl game until they know for sure whether or not Frost will be allowed to coach his team one final time.

Walters was asked about his player’s reactions to the announcement of where the Knights will be playing and said, “Excitement. Anytime you can play in the Peach Bowl, the type of bowl that it is, it’s awesome.” He continued, “The guys earned it, and to play a team like Auburn on a national stage, the guys are excited.”

This is a big moment for the UCF program, who have the opportunity to face an SEC team in Auburn who were the SEC West champions, and has victories over both Alabama and UGA, who will be playing in this year’s College Football Playoffs. Although the Knights would have loved to be in the playoffs with their undefeated season resume, playing a team in Auburn who was one win away from being in the playoffs themselves will be a great test to see just how good they are.

Walter’s said about the opportunity to play this Auburn team, “The SEC, Auburn, a top ten team in the country, we are looking forward to it.” He continued, “Another opportunity to go up, to play as a team, go out there and get a win and finish this season off the right way, and earn a little more respect than what we’ve been getting. I know the guys will be fired up and we’ll have them ready to go.”

UCF will look to cap off their perfect 12-0 season by adding one more victory together and hope that Scott Frost will be allowed to come back and coach his team one last time.

The UCF Knights and Auburn Tigers will kick off at 12:30 p.m. from Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
