Washington State leaned on its defense and an efficient first-half offensive burst to secure a 20-3 win over Colorado State on Saturday. The Cougars improved to 3-2 on the season, while the Rams slipped to 1-2.

How It Happened

The tone was set early, with both teams scoring on their opening possessions. Colorado State struck first with a field goal, but Washington State answered quickly as quarterback Zevi Eckhaus connected with Jeremiah Noga for a 35-yard touchdown, giving the Cougars the lead. A field goal later in the quarter pushed the advantage to 10-3 after the opening frame.

The second quarter belonged entirely to Washington State. The Cougars capitalized on Colorado State miscues — a fumble, a turnover on downs, and a missed field goal — to extend their lead. Atticus Sappington added another field goal before Eckhaus hit Ademola Faleye on a two-yard touchdown strike, making it 20-3 at halftime.

From there, the Cougar defense took over. Washington State held Colorado State scoreless the rest of the way, consistently pressuring the quarterback and finishing with four sacks. The Rams’ offensive struggles carried into the second half, as they failed to convert on two more fourth-down tries and missed another field goal attempt in the fourth quarter.

Team Leaders
•    Passing: Zevi Eckhaus — 16/28, 189 yards, 2 TDs
•    Rushing: Leo Pulalasi — 3 carries, 50 yards
•    Receiving: Joshua Meredith — 4 catches, 60 yards

Defensive Standouts

The Cougars’ front seven set the tone with relentless pressure, forcing Colorado State into mistakes and keeping them out of the end zone. Their four sacks and strong play on third and fourth downs proved decisive in maintaining control throughout the second half.

What’s Next

Washington State will face a much tougher test in Week Six as they travel to Oxford to take on No. 13 Ole Miss on Oct. 11, looking to carry their defensive momentum into SEC country.
