TALLADEGA, AL – Austin Dillon will lead the field to the green flag on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway to get the 2019 Geico 500 underway.

Dillion ran a 49.734-second lap in the second round of qualifying to take home his 2d pole of the season and the fifth in his career. It was his first in Talladega and came after having the rear deck lid confiscated earlier in the day after inspections.

Dillon’s second round lap time was the fastest overall in both rounds of qual. However, in round one Aric Almirola was fastest, running a 49.791-second lap. He was only 0.056 seconds faster than Dillon who was 2nd in round 1.

Almirola and Dillion flipped spots in round tow with Aric being 0.107 seconds slower in round two.

Point’s leader Kyle Busch will start 22nd on Sunday after running a 1.026-second slower lap than Almirola in round one.
