No. 6 Miami Hurricanes took care of business against Central Michigan 52-3. The Hurricanes are now 4-0 on the season. A big 28-point second quarter blew the game open. The Chippewas fall to 2-2.
Central Michigan scored first after an 11 play, 40-yard drive. Miami would then score 52 unanswered points. Javian Mallory got the scoring started with a four-yard run for a 7-3 lead.
Daylyn Upshaw would catch an 11-yard pass from Darian Mensah for a 14-3 Miami lead. After a Central Michigan fumble, the Hurricanes would score four plays later. Malachi Toney caught an 8-yard pass from Mensah. After a three-and-out, Mensah threw another touchdown, this time a 13 yarder to Cooper Barkate. Mensah would score from five yards out to give Miami a 35-3 lead going into the half.
The Chippewas fumbled on its opening drive but then Miami fumbled on the one-yard line but lineman Jamal Meriweather recovered it for a score. In the fourth Miami would kick a field goal and then score for the final time with 10:29 left in the game when Chris Wheatly-Humphrey ran for 35 yards.
The Hurricanes held Central Michigan to just 10 first downs and 158 of total offense. Miami did have 13 penalties for 107 yards. Mensah finished 23/27 for 338 yards and three touchdowns he also ran four times for 21 yards and a score. Wheatley-Humphrey had 11 carries for 104 and a touchdown. Toney led all WR with six catches for 120 yards and a
score.
This was all without top running back Mark Fletcher Jr. who was out with an upper body injury. Marquise Lightfoot had two of the four sacks for Miami. He also had 2.5 tackles for a loss and four tackles total.
