The NASCAR Cup Series is headed to Charlotte this week as the Playoffs rage on in action at the Roval, closing out the round of 16. Martin Truex Jr. won the rest two races in the round of 16 and is locked in moving forward into 12. However, a lot of drivers are not locked in and stay jockeying for position.
Who’s In?
Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick are the other two drivers locked into the round of 12. In fourth, Brad Keselowski is all but in, needing to show up and turn a couple of laps to solidify his position in the next round. Though, we certainly expect a lot more from him.
Who’s Alive Still?
Where things get really interesting is the last four out and last four in. The last four in and the last three out are all separated by just 26 points total. Kurt Busch, who is currently in 15th place, sits only 14 points outside the bubble. Ryan Newman, while sitting in 9th in the standing, has much to worry about as he is just 14 points on the inside.
Who Needs a Win The Most?
The real drama, however, sits back in 16th place in the No. 20 of Erik Jones. After being disqualified for failing post-race inspection on Saturday at Richmond, Jones is in a must-win situation now. He sits 45 points below the cut line and barring a full field crash that he is able to drive through cleanly, he will need to fight for a W on Sunday.
Who is Safe But Still Needs to Perform?
Denny Hamlin is sitting solid in 5th, 54 points above the line. Joey Logano and Chase Elliott are pretty surefire locks with Elliott 37 points above the line and Logano 50 points above.
Where’s The Anxiety?
Kyle Larson is in a good position right now 8th in the standings. He sits 25 points over the line, and should cruise into the round of 12. However, an early race incident, or troubles with his Ganassi No. 42, could hinder his chances. Though, a spot in the round of 12 awaits him barring any of these issues.
