Astros Fall to Giants in Wednesday Matinee

The Houston Astros were defeated on Wednesday afternoon by the San Francisco Giants at Minute Maid Park. After splitting the series’ first two games, the Astros sent Framber Valdez to the mound to face off against Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb.

Valdez and Webb enjoyed a pitcher’s duel as neither offense could manage any consistent production. It wasn’t until the sixth inning that the game saw its first run scored as Austin Slater doubled to score Joey Bart and give the Giants a 1-0 lead nearly two-thirds of the way through the game. Mitch Haniger batted in Slater in the sixth, and Bart brought home Michael Conforto to give the Giants a 3-0 lead after six and a half innings.

The Astros came to life in the bottom of the seventh as Alex Bregman fired a two-run shot to cut the Giants’ lead to one run, but that’s all the offense they could muster on this afternoon. The Giants added one final run in the top of the ninth to bring us to the final score of 4-2. Logan Webb was credited with the win and Camilo Doval earned the save for San Francisco. Valdez’s record falls to 2-4 on the young season.

The Astros are off on Thursday before heading to Seattle for a weekend set against the Mariners.
