Jeff Brohm has the Boilermakers on the right track in West Lafayette this season. Purdue laid a bruising on the Huskies Saturday afternoon in East Hartford.
By halftime, it was 35-0 Purdue, leading them to pull the foot off the gas in the 2nd half, on the way to a 49-0 victory. Quarterback Jack Plummer was lights out, going 16 of 20, passing for 245 yards and four touchdowns.
Leading receiver David Bell had another explosive day, hauling in six receptions for 121 yards and three touchdowns. That puts him at 14 receptions for 255 yards on the season, which will help him climb the receiving ladder in the NCAA where he ranked 23rd in the country coming into this matchup.
The Boilermakers added 187 yards on the ground, led by King Doerue’s 74 yards on 12 carries. In total, the Boilermakers put up 562 yards of total offense while allowing just 223 for UCONN.
However, in the first half, they lost running back Zander Horvath to an ankle injury.
“Looks like Zander will probably be out for a little while,” Brohm said post-game. “We’ll see how long that will be come (Sunday) or Monday.”
The Boilermakers will now turn their focus to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who they will visit next Saturday night in South Bend. It will be the first meeting between the two schools since 2014. The Irish hold the all-time record against the Boilermakers 56-26-2 in 86 total matchups.
