The Purdue Boilermakers are on a four-game win streak after beating Nebraska 43-37. The Boilermakers are 5-2 on the season and are 3-1 in the Big Ten. They’re in a first-place tie in the Big Ten West with Illinois.
Devin Mockobee carried 30 times for 178 yards and a score for Purdue. QB Aiden O’Connell threw for 391 yards and four touchdowns. Charlie Jones had 12 receptions for 132 yards and two scores and TJ Sheffield added five receptions for 70 yards and two scores.
Purdue jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Sheffield got things going with a two-yard reception followed by a Mitchell Fineran 37-yard field goal. Nebraska (3-4, 2-2 Big 10)would tie the game at 10 in the second quarter before Jones scored on a 31-yard reception. Purdue would kick another field goal, giving them another 10-point lead at 20-10 with 4:44 left in the half. Mockobee would then score from one yard out for a 27-10 lead. The Cornhuskers would make a field goal as time expired in the half.
Nebraska made it a four-point game after scoring 10 unanswered points in the third. Purdue would answer with Sheffield’s second TD catch from O’Connell, a 28-yarder for a 34-23 lead. Nebraska would answer back right before the fourth to bring the score to 34-30.
After another Purdue field goal, Jones scored on a two-yard pass. Nebraska would score again but Purdue held them off for the victory. Purdue had 38 first downs to Nebraska’s 15. Purdue controlled the clock, eating up 42:42 of the game compared to Nebraska at 17:18. Purdue also outgained the Cornhuskers 608-476.
