Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady are back together, and all it took was the beaches of Tampa Bay and a fourth-round pick.
Reports started coming in on Tuesday that the three-time Super Bowl champion tight end was traded to the Buccaneers along with a seventh-round pick, in exchange for a fourth-round pick from Tampa Bay.
The trade would bring back a pairing that won three Super Bowl championships together and combined for 78 of Gronkowski’s 79 receiving touchdowns.
Gronkowski retired after the 2018 season and did not play professional football in 2019. At 30 years old, he brings with him 521 catches and 7,861 receiving yards along with all his experience working with Brady. But injuries did cut short his 2012, 2013, and 2016 seasons, so health will be a big factor in this reunion working out in Tampa Bay.
The Buccaneers are full of talent on offense, adding Gronkowski’s reliable hands to a receiving corps that includes Mike Evans with his 48 touchdowns and 7, 260 receiving yards, and Chris Godwin’s speed and 15 yards per catch.
Tampa Bay already had talent at tight end with OJ Howard and Cameron Brate, but a five-time Pro Bowl selection should still be a welcome addition. While one, if not both tight ends could be traded before the start of the season, Brady will have his share of choices when dropping back in 2020.
Now the question is, can Brady and Gronkowski replicate what they did in New England for the Bucs? Everyone will have to wait until the season starts to find out.
FUN FACT: Rob Gronkowski participated in the most recent season of FOX’s The Masked Singer, where he was eliminated on the April 1st show.
