Future MLB Hall of Famer, David Ortiz, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide receiver, Chris Godwin, have teamed up to put on a star-studded fundraiser that will benefit the ‘David Ortiz Children’s Fund’ and ‘Team Godwin Foundation.’
The event will take place at TopGolf Tampa on Saturday night Feb. 6, and features a night full of socially distant golf competition, music, food, and an open bar.
Over 50 celebrity friends of Ortiz and Godwin will be in attendance; ranging from star athletes to actors, actresses, and musicians.
Though Ortiz has no direct ties to Tampa, he is no stranger to the area due to his many trips as a member of the Boston Red Sox to take on the Tampa Bay Rays. His foundation, David Ortiz Children’s Fund, “provides critical cardiac services to those in his native Dominican Republic, as well as New England who can’t afford it.”
“This is going to be an extraordinary event, and I am glad to host it for everyone here in Tampa,” Ortiz said. “Not only will you have the chance to enjoy amazing golf, food, drink, and much more, but you will be impacting the lives of hundreds of children who need your support.”
Godwin, who has been an integral member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense in the 2020 season, will be playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday but has gotten involved to help raise money and support his own organization. The Team Godwin Foundation uses advocacy and financial support to grant at-risk animals a second chance at life.
“It means a lot to me to get involved with this awesome event right here in my backyard,” Godwin added. “When David asked me to help raise money for the DOCF as well as my Team Godwin Foundation it was a no-brainer.”
The event will follow and enforce protocols in order to ensure the health and safety of all participants involved. Only 600 attendees will be allowed in, and it is expected to be sold out.
