Extra Yard 5K Sees More Than 1,600 Participate In Trek Through NOLA

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Sunday morning, Lafayette Square played host to the annual Extra Yard 5K. The event is held to help raise funds for teacher’s resources.

The run got underway at 8 am CT, with over 1,600 participants taking off through the streets of downtown NOLA, some running, some walking. Though it is a family-friendly run, with the main goal of raising money for teacher’s resources, there were still benefits for top finishers.

Top three finishers of three different age groups were given prizes. However, the big-ticket item many were running for, was in fact, two tickets to the 2020 CFP National Championship game.

A pair of tickets were awarded to the top overall female and male finisher of the race. For the men, Jarrett LeBlanc scored the two tickets with a time of 14:08. The top overall finisher for the females was Michelle Parks, coming in with a time of 16:40.

Additionally, a third pair of tickets were given away, with all participants having a shot at them in a raffle drawing. Staying true with the theme of the event, the winner was Litouri Smith, a former principal and current member of the Orleans Parish School Board.

Everyone that participated still went home with a medal and an Extra Yard 5K T-shirt. Additionally, they were able to support the initiative that has helped provide resources for over 250,000 teachers across the Nation since 2014, raising over $30 million dollars.

It’s just a part of the amazing work the CFP Foundation does, with the Extra Yard for Teachers program. Over 6 million students have benefited from these collective efforts.
