Galaxy pick up first win of the the season over Montréal

The LA Galaxy took home their first win of the regular season with a two to one victory over the Montréal Impact.  The Galaxy and the Impact battled with each other all throughout the match.  Both teams were extra physical tonight and we even saw a red card on an Impact player.

The Galaxy started off the night with some poor passing but that quickly changed as the match went on.  Impact player Patrice Bernier took what seemed to be a going in but Clément Diop made a great save.  Moments later in the seventh minute of play Giovanni Dos Santos took a shot but it went wide but the momentum at this point has shifted and the Galaxy fixed the issues that they had very early on.  Just three minutes later Jermaine Jones made an attempt on target but was blocked by Evan Bush.  This forced the Impact to play harder and go on the offensive, which resulted in two shots being taken on the Galaxy.  Luckily the first one missed and when they got it back to take the second shot the goal was blocked by Diop.  Romain Alessandrini in the 15th minute of play gets a beautiful cross from teammate Emmanuel Boateng, which resulted in an easy volley that hit the back of the net putting the Galaxy up one to zero.  In the 30th minute of play Galaxy player Gyasi Zardes and Impact player Hassoun Camara collided causing Camara to be subbed out and taken to the medical staff to undergo concussion protocol.

In the 21st minute of play the Impact responded again with what looked like another easy goal but Diop was all over it and stopped it in its tracks. Then a minute later the Galaxy get the ball in a breakaway play allowing them to get close to the Impact’s goal but the Impact’s defense stopped the Galaxy’s attackers.  In the 27th minute of play the Impact were granted a free kick for a penalty on the Galaxy.  The Impact took the shot and it was on target but it was blocked. Stopping yet another advance from the Impact.  In rebuttal Alessandrini receives a cross from Dos Santos but the shot went over the goal resulting in a miss.  That did not stop the Galaxy from pushing forward and making more attempts at the goal.  In the 44th minute of play Marco Donadel closed line Jermaine Jones resulting in a red card for violent conduct.  Donadel was ejected from the match for his actions on the pitch.

The second half of the match we saw the Galaxy defense take control and stop the Impact from scoring. In the 54th minute Joao Pedro was given a yellow card for a tackle that seemed to be a clean tackle but the referees deemed it to be a dirty tackle.  Ten minutes later Impact player Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla made a similar tackle.  Both teams seemed to be high tempered, as there was a shoving match between a couple of the Impact players and a couple of Galaxy players.  In the 74th minute Jones was passed the ball and broke away from the pack, hurling the ball pass Bush giving the Galaxy another goal making it two to zero.  The Galaxy turned up the defense after this goal and parked the bus.  Forcing the Impact to a scoreless game and the eventual loss.  This was the first win at home this season for the LA Galaxy.  It was a nice win for the Galaxy due to the fact that it was “Legends Night” where they honored passed Galaxy players like Landon Donovan.  Congratulations on your first home win Galaxy and hope we see plenty more wins this season.
