ATLANTA, GA – As the MLS Playoff got underway, it was Atlanta United who was looking to defend their title as they welcomed New England to the Benz for a Saturday afternoon showdown on October 19th.
The tensions were high, especially after a scoreless first half. However, that all changed midway through the second half as Franco Escobar notched a goal in the 70th minute for the Five Stripes, as the crowd erupted in jubilant celebration!
United kept the pressure on after the goal, as the Revolution looked to equalize. In the end, it was a 1-0 victory for United as they advance to the conference semi-finals where they will face the Philadelphia Union on October 24th at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The winner will advance to the conference semis with a chance to get to the MLS Cup Final on the line.
The other Semifinal in the Eastern Conference is NYCFC vs Toronto FC. This will be NYFC’s first match of the playoffs after earning a bye in the first round as the No. 1 seed. Toronto comes in with the momentum after their 5-1 win over DC United in the first round.
