Doubleheaders are popular across sports, specifically baseball, but it isn’t often you see stock car racing go for a doubleheader, but with a shortened season due to COVID-19 that’s exactly what the ARCA Menards West Series did on Saturday, June 28.
Jesse Love was easily the winner of the day, coming away with the victory in Race 1, and a second-place finish in Race 2.
Love dominated at the Utah Motorsports Campus, coming away with 90 points for the day. Love’s No. 19 car won the opening race, in which he led 23 of the 31 laps, and would place second in Race 2.
With the 90 points, Love moves to the top of the ARCA Menards West Series standings.
Blaine Perkins trails Love by 9 points in the standings. Perkins nearly lost his place among the top of the standings by finishing 11th in the first race, but he made up some ground in Race 2, as he came away with the win and led all 30 laps from the pole position.
Kris Wright also had a good day at the track, coming in second in the opening race and third in Race 2. Wright ended the day with 83 points and moved into 11th place after hir first two races of the season.
Participants for Saturday’s race had a grueling schedule to face, with qualifying in the afternoon, followed by the first race, with a second 30-lap race taking place 30 minutes after the finish of Race 1.
Love, Perkins, and the rest of the racers from the West will now set their sights on Irwindale Speedway in California, for ENEOS 125 on July 4. The race is scheduled to start at 6:00 P.M.
