Kyler Murray Takes Home Davey O’Brien Award As Nations Top QB

Written by Tyler Pastorius

Kyler Murray claimed the Davey O’Brien Award giving the University of Oklahoma back to back years of winning the award with Baker Mayfield winning the award last year. The Junior Year Quarterback finished the regular season with 4,053 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. This played an aid to Oklahoma being a 12-1 program with the No. 4 spot in the College Football Playoffs. Kyler brought up backstage that Baker has reached out to him via text about what’s going on and what to expect moving toward the playoffs.

Although he has put together a great collegiate football career, Murray will be going to the MLB to play with the Oakland Athletics. Even with a great performance on the football field, NFL scouts have already stated that they will not try to persuade Kyler away from the A’s/MLB. He also brought up in the back how he enjoys watching players in the MLB with a little more “swagger” and hopes to bring some of that with his style of play.

Murray will look to keep his streak of winning alive as he will lead the Sooners against the Alabama Roll Tide on December 29 for the shot to play in the National Championship game. Kyler Murray beat out Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Washington State’s Gardner Minshew for the honor. Kyler is also up for the Maxwell Award.
