Richmond, VA — Martin Truex Jr. captured his first career pole at Richmond Raceway Friday evening running a 21.799-second lap time. It is his 18th career pole and will lead the field to the drop of the green flag on Saturday night under the lights to get the Toyota Owners 400 underway.
Martin Truex Jr. in the No. 78 was the fastest in round one of qualifying with a 21.752-second lap time. Just missing the round two cut was Aric Almirola with a 21.957-second lap, he will start in 25th. Kyle Busch in the No. 18 and Brad Keselowski in the No. 2 also missed the cut to get to round two.
In round two, the no. 11 of Denny Hamlin was the fastest. Then in the final round of qualifying, Martin Truex Jr. snagged the pole with a lap time of 21.799-seconds. 2nd fastest was Chase Elliott in the No. 9, just 0.042-seconds behind Truex Jr. The Full qualifying results are available below.
