ATLANTA (May 19, 2018) – Atlanta United returns to action on Sunday, May 20 when it hosts New York Red Bulls at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m. EST and will be nationally televised on FS1.
Atlanta defeated Orlando City SC 2-1 on May 13 behind goals from Josef Martínez and Ezequiel Barco, extending the club’s away winning streak to four games and matching its away win total from 2017. After Greg Garza was taken down inside the box, Martinez calmly put away the penalty kick in the 11th minute to score his league-leading eighth goal of the season. Barco doubled the lead in the 31st minute when he struck a pass from Garza with the outside of his right foot and into the top corner for his second goal in three games. Orlando pulled a goal back in the second half from Justin Meram, but Atlanta held on for the win and regained the top spot in the Supporters’ Shield standings heading into the weekend.
New York defeated Colorado Rapids 2-1 on the road at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on May 12. Daniel Royer opened the scoring in the 5th minute on a cross from Bradley Wright-Phillips. Derrick Etienne Jr. scored the second goal in the 76th minute after a VAR decision and Jack McBean added a late goal for the Rapids to make it a 2-1 final.
