Miami Football Kicks Off 2019 Canes Training Camp

Miami Football Canes

Coral Gables, FL— There is nothing like football and Friday Night Lights, especially when it involves Coach Diaz and the Miami Hurricanes! On Thursday, July 25, the Hurricanes reported to training camp to kick-off the 2019 season and were called to the field Friday night for day 1 of Fall Training Camp. Thousands of fans donning the green and orange showed up to the Greentree Practice Fields to get an early look at the “New Miami”. Spectators only got a brief glimpse of the 2019 squad before weather moved the party indoors.

The highlight of day 1 surrounded the quarterback controversy. With six quarterbacks on the roster and a lot of ambiguity from Coach Diaz, spectators sat to watch and evaluate the quarterbacks for themselves. The top three prospects of day 1 were none other than Ohio State transfer, Tate Martell, redshirt-sophomore N’Kosi Perry, and redshirt freshman, Jarren Williams. Martell displayed his shotgun arm on pinpoint routes, power on the deep throws and quick footwork when carrying the ball. The transfer is coming into the University of Miami from The Ohio State University, where he was the back-up quarterback behind Dwayne Haskins.

Alternating in and out of the pocket with Martell was returner, N’Kosi Perry. Perry is coming into the Fall 2019 season as the starter in Miami’s last regular season match against Pittsburgh. The 6’4, Redshirt Sophomore finished with a 4-2 record in his first official season as a quarterback last year. Perry will be fighting to secure his spot not only against Martell, but Redshirt Freshman, Jarren Williams. Williams is returning for his second year at the U, after redshirting last year, and is looking to fight his way up the depth chart.

Competition lined every inch of the field as the Hurricanes went drill after drill. The notable transfers Miami has accumulated showed up to day 1 and asserted themselves as dangerous weapons in Miami’s loaded arsenal. Notable transfers on Miami’s watch-list are wide receiver K.J. Osborne, DL Trevon. Hill, and DL Chigozie Nnoruka.

28 days away from the Hurricane’s season kick-off against the University of Florida, UM has a lot to prove to their alumni, community, city, and themselves.
