Two teams that watched Championship Weekend from home now meet with everything on the line.
#10 Miami (10–2) travels to College Station to face #7 Texas A&M (11–1) on December 20th at noon ET on ABC and ESPN — a first-round matchup built on firepower, missed opportunities, and the urgency of postseason survival.
⸻
How They Arrived at the Playoff Stage
Miami opened the season looking like a contender from the jump, ripping off five straight wins including a statement victory over then-#6 Notre Dame. Along the way, the Hurricanes collected ranked wins over USF and rival Florida State before stumbling midseason against Louisville and SMU.
Mario Cristobal’s group recovered quickly, closing the regular season with four straight victories — highlighted by a 38–7 dismantling of Pittsburgh — to secure a 10–2 résumé strong enough to catch the committee’s eye.
Texas A&M took a different route: fewer pitfalls, more explosions.
The Aggies didn’t face Georgia or Alabama, but they stacked quality wins — including a shootout victory over then-#8 Notre Dame, a 49–25 rout of LSU, and a convincing performance against Missouri. Their only loss came to Texas, costing them a spot in the SEC title game but not in the playoff field.
And if scoring tells the story, A&M’s numbers shout:
Six games with 40+ points.
Only two outings under 20 all year.
Miami hasn’t lacked offense either — the Hurricanes topped 40 points four times and have scored at least 20 in every contest.
This one is built for fireworks.
