The Purdue Boilermakers fell to 1-3 on the season as they suffered a blowout to 3 Notre Dame 49-10. With the win, The Fighting Irish keep the Shillelagh Trophy. This game was the 90 th meeting with Notre Dame now leading 60-26-2 and is on a nine-game winning streak in the series.
In the last three meetings, the Boilermakers have been outscored 171-47. Purdue went three and out on their first possession of the game but forced Notre Dame to punt on their first drive as well. The Boilermakers ran 12 plays for 46 yards but ultimately turned the ball over on downs. The Irish would score four plays later to make it 7-0.
After that, everything went downhill for Purdue as the Fighting Irish scored 28 points in the second quarter taking a 35-0 lead into the half.
Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr was picked off by linebacker Charles Correa on the opening drive of the third quarter but Purdue turned the ball over on downs for the second time. They finally scored with 4:10 left in the third when Jacobo Echeverria Lozano nailed a 47-yard kick.
Notre Dame opened up the fourth with another touchdown before both teams traded punts. Notre Dame would score a final time and Purdue finally found the end zone when backup QB Evans Chuba found Bisi Owens for 14
yards.
Starting QB Ryan Browne was 18/28 for 111 yards, Chuba was 7/9 for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Purdue was held to just 40 yards rushing on 31 attempts. Fame Ijeboi had 12 of those carries for 41 yards.
Owens had two catches for 23 yards and the touchdown.
