Pep Hamilton to Land First Career Head Coaching Job with Washington D.C.’s XFL Team

The second major signee to the re-imagination of the XFL will officially be announced on Thursday afternoon. In a press conference to be streamed live on Facebook LIVE and www.xfl.com, league commissioner Oliver Luck is expected to announce Pep Hamilton as the first head coach and general manager of the league’s forthcoming Washington D.C. based team.

In a career that began at Howard University, Hamilton was the Bison’s quarterback’s coach before becoming the team’s offensive coordinator. After a twoseason sabbatical, he began coaching in the NFL with the New York Jets, becoming the team’s OQC, quarterbacks and wide receiver’s coaches over the course of three seasons.

Most recently, Hamilton served as the assistant head coach and passing game coordinator for the Michigan Wolverines for two seasons under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Two weeks ago, Hamilon left the University after completing two of the four year $4.25 Million deal he signed in 2017.

This opportunity would mark the first time Hamilton has served as a head coach in his coaching career. While we have yet to see how he will do as a head coach after years of being at the assistant level, with all eight XFL teams being at an even level, this is the best chance for Hamilton to showcase he has what it takes to be a successful head coach.
