San Jose State Welcomes UNLV To The Coast For A Conference Showdown

The San Jose State Spartans (3-1, 1-0 Mountain West Conference) welcome the UNLV Rebels (4-1, 2-0 MWC) tonight at 10:30 PM EST on CBSSN. Both teams are on winning streaks. The Spartans have won two straight while the Rebels are winners of three straight. The Spartans lead the series 18-7-1 including a two-game winning streak. 

For the Spartans, a win would put them 2-0 in the conference for the first time in two years. Junior Chevan Cordeiro was named MW Offensive Player of the Week (10/3) after his three-touchdown performance in a 33-16 win over Wyoming. Two ofthose scores came on the ground. Cordeiro threw for a season-high 314 yards. For the season, Cordeiro has thrown for 1,078 yards and four touchdowns. 

On the defensive side, the Spartans have an interception in every game this season. They have a +6 turnover difference which is good for ninth in the nation. The offense hasn’t turned the ball over this season. Defensive Lineman Cade Hill is one of the six Spartans with an interception. He also has 13 tackles and leads the team in sacks with 1.5. 

For UNLV, a fourth straight win would be its longest streak since 2013. The Rebels have already doubled their win total from last year. Last week, the Rebels defeated New Mexico 31-20 and scored at least 30 points in four of their last five games. QB Doug Brumfield threw for 223 yards and ran for a touchdown. Brumfield has eight passing touchdowns on the year and 1,223 passing yards. He’s second on the team with rushing touchdowns (five). 

Running back Aiden Robbins has 506 yards on the ground this season on 104 attempts and eight scores. 

DB Cameron Oliver leads the Rebels with three interceptions. He also has 18 tackles. DL  Adam Plant Jr. leads the team with 2 sacks. 

UNLV averages 37.8 points a game to San Jose State’s 26.0.
