Orlando, FL. – After suffering their first regular-season loss in 25 games, UCF bounced back and made a statement against American Conference rivals, UCONN Huskies. In a game that was dubbed the “civil conflict” by the University of Connecticut, there was not much conflict.
The Knights easily handled the Huskies and moved to 4-1 on the season.
The Huskies first two drives resulted in turnovers. The first being an interception thrown by Jack Zergiotis and intercepted by Antwan Collier. The second being a fumble from Zergiotis. UCF would capitalize on only one of those drives. It wouldn’t matter if they only went one-for-two on those drives, the Knights would still get the stops needed and the offense would do the rest. This shouldn’t be a sentence but the second biggest play of the night was a 73-yard catch and run from Dillon Gabriel to wideout Gabriel Davis. Davis ran a quick post route and was off to the races. “When I got the ball my first thought was, I wanna be like Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb” Davis said post game. The biggest play of the night was from Adrian Killins, he took off on a 75-yard dash and beat all of UCONN’s DB’s in a footrace. That run made the score 28-0 and that was just the halfway point of scoring for the Knights.
UCONN got on the board with just 1:30 left in the 3rd quarter. They would score two more times in the 4th and shut UCF’s 2nd and 3rd stringers out the rest of the game. The final would come out to UCF beating the Huskies 56-21. Gabriel Davis had 3 receiving touchdowns, 119 yards and averaged 23.8 yards per reception. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw 11-16 for 281 yards and 3 touchdowns. Darriel Mack Jr. also saw his return to play tonight, he went 9-13 for 97 yards and a touchdown. Mack had a rushing touchdown on the night but the call was overturned after it was found that his knee was down before the ball broke the plane.
The Huskies fall to 1-3 on the season while the Knights moved to 4-1 on the season. UCF will take on the Cincinnati Bearcats Friday, October 4th. The game will be aired on ESPN and kickoff is set for 8:00 PM. The last time these two teams met was when College Gameday came to Orlando and UCF seemed to easily take down the Bearcats.
