The Wake Forest Demon Deacons pulled off the upset, 30-27 against No. 16 Louisville. Wake took the lead for good in the fourth quarter after a back- and-forth game.
After forcing the Cardinals to go three-and-out on their opening drive, Wake Forest turned it over on downs. Louisville again would go three-and-out with the Demon Deacons kicking a field goal. Louisville would respond with a touchdown and took a 7-3 lead into the second quarter.
Wake Forest would then score the first of three touchdowns in the second quarter. After a 48-yard pass from Gio Lopez to Carlos Hernandez, Ty Clark III would score two plays later on a six-yard run to give the Demon Deacons the lead again, 10-7. The Cardinals would go 75 yards in 11 plays to score a touchdown. Wake Forest retook the lead again for a third time when Lopez connected with Hernandez again, this time for 77 yards.
The Cardinals then threw an interception and Wake took advantage and scored again. Clark III would score on another six-yard run for a 24-14 Wake Forest lead. Louisville would score in just three plays to make it a 24-21 Demon Deacon lead at the half.
Louisville would kick two field goals and Wake Forest kicked a field goal for a 27-27 tie.
The fourth quarter was sloppy for both teams. Wake turned it over after two plays on a fumble but the Cardinals turned it over on downs. Wake kicked what would be the winning field goal. Louisville had two chances to tie the game but missed both kicks.
Lopez finished 12/19 for 225 and a touchdown. Clark III had 21 carries for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Hernandez had nine catches for 194 yards and a score.
Gabe Kirschke had two sacks for Wake Forest.
