Clemson Opens 2020 On A Mission, As They Dismantle Wake Forest

Clemson’s youth was on display Saturday night as the top ranked Tigers notched their 12th straight win over Wake Forest, defeating the Demon Deacons 37-13.

Clemson jumped out to an early lead on the heels of their dynamic quarterback Trevor Lawrence who rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another to put the Tigers up 27-0 at half. Lawrence looked to be in mid season form completing 22 of 28 passes for 351 yards in the first half alone.

When asked about his team’s performance after the game, Lawrence said, “We were in a really good rhythm tonight. We played with a great tempo. I think we had 50 plays at halftime which is pretty impressive. Usually we are looking at about 70 plays at the end of the game so having 50 at halftime is pretty good. I thought our game plan was really well executed. I thought our coaches did a great job of putting us in situations for the most part, what they did, was kinda what we planned for.”

That’s not saying Wake Forest didn’t put in a solid effort. While they finished the first half scoreless, they did manage to put up 13 points in the second half. Clemson just came out in top seed fashion and got the job done. Demon Deacons Head Coach, Dave Clawson said, “First off, I just want to start out and give credit to Clemson. They’re an excellent football program, and they came out strong like they always do, and played better than us tonight and won the game.”

Clemson will now shift their focus to The Citadel and their opening game at Death Valley next weekend while Wake Forest will gear up to travel to NC State.
